MOON REGAN TRANSANTARCTIC EXPEDITION

Aim

The expedition has several goals.

Crossing of Antarctica in a motor vehicle
This is a challenge in itself – crossing territory that is previously untested by vehicle. The crevasses and unstable terrain make for a tough expedition and require some serious driving skills.

To demonstrate how using wheeled vehicles in the Antarctic can work more efficiently
Scientific research stations often rely on planes and big road trains with tracks and many vehicles. Using the Science Support Vehicles will show that such research can be done with a lower impact on the environment.

To demonstrate the efficiency of bio-fuels
Using bio-fuels to power the Concept Ice Vehicle will draw attention to this alternative form of fuel. As Andrew Regan says, ‘if you can use bio-fuels in the Antarctic, you can use them to go to the shops.’

To educate the world about climate change
Through their website, the team hope to draw attention to the plight of Antarctica. They will do this by carrying out scientific experiments that demonstrate just how important the ice caps are to the world’s environmental stability.

To inspire more children to learn about the importance of the polar regions
Using an interactive animated website the team hopes to educate and inspire children about global warming and show how they can make a difference…
